  • Paulina Ołowska, Emilia\'s Face (after Jerzy Kolecki), 2014

PRICE: sold out

The work refers to the 2010 project realised in a mountain village in the vicinity of Cracow when the artist covered the façade of Rabcio Theatre with large scale paintings inspired by the projects of Jerzy Kolecki. In the 1960s and 70s, Kolecki created innovative stage sets and posters for several dozen shows of the Puppet Theatre. On the one hand, Ołowska revokes Kolecki’s works (in a selection of her posters and a series of postcards), which fits in with her strategy of reviving forgotten aesthetics. On the other hand, loyal to her idea of returning women to their right place in the history and culture, she paints monumental, female eyes and lips, straight from characters invented by Kolecki, on the façade of the Museum – thereby creating an impression that ‘Emilia’ has come to life.
