A print of the photograph "Stop Calling Me Murzyn" by Rafał Milach enters the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

The photograph shows activist Bianka Nwolisa (age 10) with a banner "Stop Calling Me Murzyn". The photo was taken in June 2020 during a protest in front of the U.S. Embassy against police brutality towards African-American communities, spurred by the killing of George Floyd. The photograph sparked heated discussions in both traditional and social media. It also contributed to a debate among linguists, the Polish Language Council approved the opinion of member Professor Marek Łaziński regarding the word »Murzyn« - it should not be used unless in historical quotation as it has acquired an exceptionally strong offensive phraseology.

The artist and gallery Jednostka are donating 50% of the proceeds to support the Porta Foundation, which helps people struggling with exclusion and discrimination.

⭐ The acquisition of this work has been made possible by contributions and donations from members of Friends of the Museum of Modern Art ⭐
